Funding Organization: American Foundation for Suicide Prevention Study Title: Urocortin 3 in Dorsolateral Prefrontal Cortex of Depressed Suicides

چکیده
This research grant will investigate methylation patterns in the brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) gene. Published research has reported that the BDNF gene and its products have been associated with suicidal behavior. Several lines of evidence point to BDNF as a factor in mood disorders and specifically bipolar disorder illnesses, where there are greater percentages of suicides or attempts. Epigenetic factors may play a

Elevated levels of endocannabinoids and CB1 receptor-mediated G-protein signaling in the prefrontal cortex of alcoholic suicide victims.
BACKGROUND Alcoholism is often comorbid with mood disorders and suicide. We recently reported an upregulation of CB(1) receptor-mediated signaling in the dorsolateral prefrontal cortex (DLPFC) of subjects with major depression who died by suicide. In the present study, we sought to determine whether the changes in depressed suicides would also be present in alcoholic suicides and whether the en...
متن کاملTranscranial Direct Current Stimulation of Dorsolateral Prefrontal Cortex in Patients with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder to Improve Decision Making and Reduce Obsession Symptoms
Objective: Recent studies on treating obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) have investigated noninvasive brain stimulation techniques such as transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) to improve patients’ impaired emotion and cognition. However, such experiments have yielded mixed results, especially with respect to cognition. This study aimed to investigate whethe...
متن کاملRepression of Astrocytic Connexins in Cortical and Subcortical Brain Regions and Prefrontal Enrichment of H3K9me3 in Depression and Suicide
Background Major depressive disorder has been associated with dysfunctional astrocytic networks. The underlying causes, extent, and consequences of such dysfunctions remain to be characterized. Astrocyte-astrocyte communication occurs principally through gap junction channels primarily formed by connexin 30 and 43 (CX30 and CX43). We previously reported decreased connexin expression in the pref...

Objective: The present study was an attempt to examine the effect of repetitive Transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) on the reduction of Behavioral Activation System's activity in right and left dorsolateral prefrontal cortex among methamphetamine abusers. Method: In the present study, single subject and multiple baseline research designs were used and repeated measurements observations wer...
متن کاملModulation of Drug Craving in Crystalline-Heroin Users by Transcranial Direct Current Stimulation of Dorsolateral Prefrontal Cortex
Background: Drug craving, the main cause of relapse and a major motivator for drug use, is a challenging obstacle in substance use treatment. Transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS), a non-invasive neuromodulatory technique, has shown promising outcomes in treating different neuropsychiatric disorders such as drug addiction, more specifically on drug craving. The aim in the current study...
